Eddi Reader’s rare blend of pure melting vocals mingled with powerful
emotion easily places her as a unique figure in both contemporary folk
and popular music.
Reader’s early career began with the successful punk outfit Gang of
Four, where she had already excelled. But it was when she toured with the
Eurythmics in the ‘80s, performing with the hugely talented Annie Lennox,
that this British singer really came to the fore. Today, Reader remains
a powerful voice in contemporary British music, with a reputation for holding
her audiences in thrall.
Both her single Perfect and parent album First of a Million Kisses topped
the British charts, while Simple Soul (2001/Rough Trade) led British newspaper
The Independent to describe the release as showcasing “the fully-fledged
emergence of a songwriting talent”. Touring the world after the album’s
release, Reader has collected rave reviews at every performance.
She is currently promoting her album of material by 18th century Scottish
poet Robert Burns.
