this that and the other

this that and the other

by Bose Krishnamachari

-in conjunction with Mosaic Music Festival
The French artist Christian Boltanski once remarked: "The task is
to create a formal work that is at the same time recognised by the spectator
as a sentimentally charged object. Everyone brings his own history to
it."
Bose Krishnamachari's project as an artist is to present the viewer with
a trigger point of images and icons that function as symbolic devices with
which to speak of an entire culture, its shifting mindsets and, its eclectic
borrowings.
Born in Kerala, Krishnamachari completed his MFA from Goldsmiths College,
University of London. His work, thus reinforced by a `here and now' awareness
of contemporary culture, borrows effortlessly from various disciplines.
Krishnamachari
pays as much attention to form as he does to conceptual and contextual
concerns. Startling planes of flat colour juxtaposed against
almost photographic representations of identifiable persona imbue the
work with an 'international' sensibility. He admits to combining western
image-making
techniques (such as the installation) with the vernacular, in a bid to
arrive at an idiom that is contemporary and brisk.

Here, they give off an energy and intensity that saturate the senses. This
collection by Abad (1946-2004), Batanes, Philippines, kindly lent to us
by The Pacita Abad Foundation, was inspired from her travels to more than
80 countries.

Three artists showcase their classical and formalistic explorations into
the elementary process of art-making. Using a variety of archaeological
references, Milica Bravacic explores techniques in ageing paint and preserving
things. In this exhibition, she shares her fascinating discovery of the
similarities between motifs found on Spanish, Mediterranean and Peranakan
tiles.

Montreux Jazz Posters Exhibition
9 Mar - 16 Apr (Thu-Sun)
with special guest artist Agung Kurniawan
Switzerland/ Indonesia
- in conjunction with Mosaic Music Festival
Montreux Jazz Festival returns with their 40th year celebration this year.
Through the years, their posters have been their special signature. Each
year, the Montreux Jazz Festival commissions artists to work on the ‘look’ of
the festival. Here's an exhibition featuring the best selection from their
poster library: Classic.
Guest artist Agung Kurniawan from Indonesia will create a series
of paintings and drawings within the duration of two weeks prior to the
opening of
the exhibition. His cynical and satirical works deal with social issues
regarding
the governmental and political systems in his country, and those regarding
gender inequality and self-criticism.
