Celebrate party music Made In Asia!
In just one night, Club M.I.A. features three all-Asian indie bands playing an infectious party mix that begins with electro-pop, slides into dance-punk pop rock and ends with disco-punk-rock.
15th Scenery from Thailand delivers fun Thai electro-pop in English and Thai with girly vocals from frontwoman Bee, catchy melodies on the guitar, old-school moog synthesiser and other instruments, and an easy-breezy attitude best described by their hit song, Happy like a Honeybee.
Pedicab from The Philippines doles out energetic dance-punk (affectionately called "dunk" by the band) with its members hailing from other famous pinoy bands like Sandwich and Cambio. The band's use of vintage analog synthesisers as well as its quirky vocal style have also given Pedicab a sound reminiscent of 80s synthpop, but with a garage rock flavour. Expect madcap onstage antics, identical costumes, strange English and Tagalog lyrics, and a total disregard for seriousness.
New Pants isn't a Chinese clothing line but a Beijing band that's been making waves, packing stadiums and winning MTV and other awards with its peculiar brand of 80s electro-and-New-Wave-influenced disco-punk-rock featuring bouncy synth melodies, stomp beats, random sampling, vocoderised vocals singing droll Mandarin and English lyrics, and yes, complete with colourful pants.
