BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS

A festival component since 2007, the Bright Young Things segment has deepened its focus this year on the developmental process of the young musicians. Auditions, which began in early January, identified nine 15 to 23-year-old local talents who underwent intensive rehearsals over eight weeks, headed by local instructor-mentors jazz guitarist Andrew Lim, drummer Soh Wen Ming, contemporary music educator Ramu Thiruyanam, pianist Joshua Wan and bassist Andrew Klein. Come catch these bright young things and their interpretations of tunes from the jazz canon.

Kelvin Tan is a singer, songwriter and established writer who has released over 50 albums of diverse and extreme musical genres. This performance features him on improvised vocals with critically acclaimed painter and percussionist / drummer Justin Lim, who's a renown and top sessions recording artist in his native Kuala Lumpur. Both have recorded steadily together in Tan's albums, where the influences are world, rock, jazz, experimental and a lot more. Painter and musician Jeremy Sharma has released two albums of multi-faceted colour, Nuclear Families and Albatross.
