Belle & Sebastian
Scotland   7 Aug 2010, Sat, 7.30pm $60*, $90, $120, $150

Belle and Sebastian played light, airy Brit-folk characterized more by shyness than brashness. Softness, plainness and sensitivity were not signs of weakness but goals to be pursued in songs chiseled out of delicate arrangements and smart, perceptive lyrics.
- New York Times

Belle and Sebastian, makers of the trippy, breezy summer's day folk-pop that sent many in the 90s into little raptures, are back, with their first shows in four years.

Theirs is still the clean, upbeat, slightly retro sound, with singalong choruses and quirky lyrics that have made the group increasingly popular since its brilliant debut album, Tigermilk. After seven raved-about studio albums, two compilations, several EPs, numerous chart-toppers, various side projects and extensive touring in Europe, Japan, Australia, USA and Canada things have changed. The simple, twee hush of its earlier music has evolved into a lusher, glossier sound. The nervy tremble of its earlier tunes has gone; in its place is a new confidence, savvy and disarmingly robust.

On their last run of shows, they sold-out a show with the L.A. Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, Belle and Sebastian is back with a mixture of familiar songs and some appetisers from their new album, which will be released later in 2010.

Belle and Sebastian are Stuart Murdoch (vocals, guitar, piano), Stevie Jackson (guitar), Bob Kildea (bass, guitar) Richard Colburn (drums), Chris Geddes (keyboards), Sarah Martin (violin, vocals), Mick Cooke (trumpet, bass).
